Hello deviantART members and other internet users,
In late July 2017, Adobe announced the end-of-life for
Flash by the end of 2020. Many
browsers voiced interest in dropping flash support by 31 December 2020. At present, an
official Flash Plugin is available, but once 2021 begins, any Flash technology downloads will come from unofficial sources; thus, download of content puts your personal security at risk. Please refrain from downloading any Flash technology once 2021 begins. Local Flash technology will remain fully functional. Any and all notifications to update your Flash Player will be a scam.
The most relevant information to the future of Flash on deviantArt is that Flash deviations will not run. A
Flash emulating browser extension will be needed to run Flash content.
14 January 2021 update: Adobe terminated the Flash Plug-In on 12 January 2021. Flash content cannot run any web browser unless accessed via an emulator. Adobe highly recommends that internet users manually uninstall their Flash Players (
Windows |
Mac) to protect their safety. Alleged player downloads come from unauthorised sources that may compromise your safety. Any and all notifications to update your Flash Player are a scam.
The Announcement and the future of my Flash-based projects* I have converted my Flash media to other formats. Flash comics have been converted to PDF documents and reuploaded to deviantART. Flash animations have been converted to video formats and have been uploaded to my youtube channel. Flash audio has been submitted to my soundCloud account. All flash media had been archived or deleted by 31 December 2020.
22 July 2023 Update: By popular request, select Flash games have been recovered from archive and placed in a
Legacy Flash Game Gallery. All Games require a
Flash Emulator to run. All Games are in the process of being submit to Flashpoint.
* I do not foresee myself converting flash games into other application formats. DeviantART presently provides no opportunity for users to submit varied application format files, nor is it partnering with emulator builders to render content accessible again (please edify me if you find contrary information). Should deviantART update its policy on interactive application uploading, I may consider converting my flash games. I have zero interest in joining other websites that specialise in next generation coding applications.
Gratefully yours,
Danilee N.
