Hmmmmm....

I do not know about anyone else (nor will I ask), but many will walk up to me and ask if I am a lesbian simply due to rainbow pattern imprinted onto my attire. When I reply that I am heterosexual, a good number of them seem rather confused. Some homosexual people I know feel insulted when I "steal their symbol."

To be quite honest, The rainbow was not invented by the Homosexual culture. It was adopted. Before they adopted it, other cultures and religions looked to it. From a secular standpoint, it is merely the bending of light through a frame.

Rainbows in cultures other than the homosexual are vastly symbolic. In some it means peace. In others it is hope. To others it is just a happy crazy colour combination to express themselves with. According to Western religion (Judaism, Christianity, Islamic), the rainbow is God's promise to never flood the world again. In Norse (pre-christian viking) mythology, the rainbow was a bridge to the Gods paradise. There is a happy little Irish legend that at the end of a rainbow, there is a pot of gold, meaning that rainbows lead to good fortune (the moral: follow your dreams).

If we look at it from a physicist's point of view, a rainbow is a formed from the bending of light through water. As it passes through the body of the raindrop, the angle is altered. This "bend" is known as a refraction of light.

As stated in the examples above, there is so much more to a rainbow than homosexuality. I am not saying that homosexuals cannot enjoy the brightness and hope the rainbow offers-- I merely ask that regardless of sexuality, we, as a collective whole, may be able to wear it without the one-dimensional mind set.

I am most definitely apologetic if this offends anyone. I just wish to state an honest opinion while attempting to remain positive. :]
